In this arid region, a desalination plant is needed to supply fresh water. An electrolysis plant will split the water into hydrogen and oxygen, before the hydrogen gas is converted into liquid ammonia. A new deepwater port will accommodate tankers to ship the end product around the world. Dutch companies like the Port of Rotterdam and gas pipeline operator Gasunie see a business opportunity to offload the green ammonia from ships and pipe it to industry inland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">In June,\u00a0green hydrogen commissioner Mnyupe told a national newspaper that the Dutch government had given Namibia a \u20ac40m grant to develop green hydrogen. He said the government would use \u20ac23m of this to buy a stake in Hyphen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Dutch said the money was not Namibia\u2019s to spend.
