As we publish, it\u2019s still not clear who will control the US Congress, but Republicans haven\u2019t done as well as many predicted. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the Senate, Democrats won a contested Senate seat in Pennsylvania. Seats in Arizona and Nevada are too close to call. If the Democrats win them both, they keep control of the Senate. If they win neither, then Republicans win control.<\/p>\n

As it did \u00a0two years ago<\/a>, the outcome could come down to a runoff in Georgia, where the victor needs an outright majority,\u00a0on 6 December.<\/p>\n

In the House, there\u2019s a lot more still up for grabs.<\/p>\n

Whoever ends up on top,\u00a0Biden\u2019s landmark Inflation Reduction Act<\/a> is going to be hard to undo.<\/p>\n

But Biden has so far failed<\/a> to get US climate finance up to scratch. Control of Congress would give him some\u00a0chance of delivering.<\/p>\n

Despite the nail-biting back home, Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi was in Sharm el-Sheikh today and said that Biden had asked for the release of more climate funds. \u201cWe have a responsibility, we made a commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n

But, she said, \u201cit is a challenge, and we haven\u2019t succeeded yet, to get the global funding that we need to be good neighbours on this planet\u201d.<\/p>\n

Pelosi said it was hard to speak in the midterms on this subject because of \u201cdisagreements\u201d between Democrats and Republicans. Some conservative still call climate change\u00a0\u201ca hoax\u201d.<\/p>\n

She brought two planes of US lawmakers with her and not one Republican\u00a0came. \u201cWe have to get over that. I place my confidence in their children to teach them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Speaking alongside Pelosi, Kathy Castor warned that the house select committee on the climate crisis \u2013 which she chairs \u2013 would be scrapped if Republicans win the house.<\/p>\n
