New Zealand’s government has welcomed its official advisers’ advice on carbon budgets up to 2035 but critics say these budgets are under-ambitious on livestock and over-reliant on international offsets.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Aotearoa Climate Change Commission’s advice<\/a> was published on Wednesday and outlines how to reduce long-lived climate pollutants like carbon dioxide by 63% between 2019 and 2035.<\/p>\n

Prime minister Jacinda Ardern called the advice<\/a> “one of the most significant documents I\u2019ll receive in my time as prime minister”. Climate change minister James Shaw, from the Green party, said<\/a> “from now on nearly every minister will, in some ways, be a climate change minister”.<\/p>\n
