The governments in South Africa and Romania both decided to reverse earlier moratoriums.<\/p>\n<p>Fracking involves injecting a concoction of water and chemicals into the ground at high pressure to extract shale gas.<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.climatechangenews.com\/2015\/01\/29\/denmark-gears-up-for-fight-against-fracking\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Report:<\/strong> Denmark gears up for fight against fracking<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In some cases, this has led to small <a href=\"http:\/\/www.climatechangenews.com\/2015\/01\/05\/fracking-caused-ohio-earthquake-in-2014-say-researchers\/\" target=\"_blank\">earthquakes<\/a>. Opponents say that it is inconsistent to extract a new form of fossil fuel while around two thirds of known reserves must be left in the ground in order to avoid dangerous levels of global warming.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark is considered to be among the most environmentally conscious countries in Europe due to its stringent targets. The country aims to be completely rid of fossil fuels by <a href=\"http:\/\/denmark.dk\/en\/green-living\/strategies-and-policies\/independent-from-fossil-fuels-by-2050\/\" target=\"_blank\">2050<\/a>, and phase out the use of coal by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/sections\/energy\/denmark-wants-be-coal-free-2025-309593\" target=\"_blank\">2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, its Alum Shale contains an estimated 6.9 trillion cubic feet (159 billion cubic metres) of undiscovered technically recoverable natural gas, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/newsroom\/article.asp?ID=3741&amp;from=rss_home#.VNOdBdKsVIE\" target=\"_blank\">US Geological Survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In order to go ahead with fracking, Total must complete an Environmental Impact Assessment and gain permission from the government.<\/p>\n<p>The company said this week that test drilling \u2013 originally scheduled to take place in January \u2013 had been pushed back to spring due to a delay in manufacturing the rig.<\/p>\n<p>Scharmann said that the government is aware of public concerns regarding fracking, and had taken measures to ensure that the process is carried out responsibly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government does not consider fracking as dangerous,\u201d she said.\u00a0&#8220;There has to be a full EIA to look at the consequences of fracking projects. They are not annoyed [that it will go ahead], and they also want to collect data and experience from the projects and licenses granted to
